Kia ora, welcome to the Conway Road Reserve Playground project page. Here, you’ll find everything you need to know about the project, including latest updates, and a timeline of upcoming steps. Check out the information on the right-hand side of this page for all this and more.

About the project

Paengaroa is getting a new playground and shared path, with learn-to-ride features, in the heart of the village, which tamariki will be able to access without having to cross the state highway.

The $400,000 playground and path will be built at Conway Road Reserve, which is on the same side of the state highway as the school.

Until 2019 the reserve was used for horse grazing however the Paengaroa community worked hard to convert the area for its intended purpose as a community reserve. At the time, there was no recreational land on the housing side of State Highway 33, and they were worried about children crossing the highway to access Paengaroa Domain.

The playground is the next stage in transforming Conway Road Reserve into a vibrant community space where children can play, families can gather, and memories can be made.

For your safety, Conway Road Reserve is closed while the work is taking place.

What's happening now? (June 3)

We’ve been busy adding a splash of colour — painting bright flowers and buzzy bees that will decorate a fence around the play area for younger children.

The green picket fence is being designed to look like grass, and will add a bit of fun to the space.

Thanks to the Te Puke Community Menz Shed, who cut out the plywood shapes and gave them a base coat, ready for us to bring them to life!

29 May

It's exciting to see the first piece of playground equipment go in - a 'Supernova', a slanting, rotating ring that tamariki can sit, lie or stand on (if you dare!), and spin around. And the shared path is almost finished, with just the log bike balance feature left to be built.

The whole reserve remains closed for the time being, but we're hoping to have the playground open by the end of July. The shared track may open ahead of the playground, so keep watching for updates.

The first piece of play equipment, a 'Supernova', has gone in and we've started edging the playground.

We're pumped to have this section of pump track finished!

The nature play area is taking shape.
