Kia ora, welcome to the Conway Road Reserve Playground project page. Here, you’ll find everything you need to know about the project, including latest updates, and a timeline of upcoming steps. Check out the information on the right-hand side of this page for all this and more.

About the project

Paengaroa is getting a new playground and shared path, with learn-to-ride features, in the heart of the village, which tamariki will be able to access without having to cross the state highway.

The $400,000 playground and path will be built at Conway Road Reserve, which is on the same side of the state highway as the school.

Until 2019 the reserve was used for horse grazing however the Paengaroa community worked hard to convert the area for its intended purpose as a community reserve. At the time, there was no recreational land on the housing side of State Highway 33, and they were worried about children crossing the highway to access Paengaroa Domain.

The playground is the next stage in transforming Conway Road Reserve into a vibrant community space where children can play, families can gather, and memories can be made.

For your safety, Conway Road Reserve is closed while the work is taking place.

What's happening now? (1 August)

Counting down... this time next week we will be gearing up to open the playground! We've just got a few things to finish off first, like the shelter next to the play area for younger tamariki.

Then, from 3pm, on Friday 8 August, the playground will be open for everyone to enjoy.

The shared path is already open, so if you haven't already walked, biked, or run around it yet, pop down and try it out.

June 18

Not long to go now! We're putting the finishing touches on the playground and counting down the weeks until this exciting new place space opens.

The shared path is also close to being finished. We're working on completing the final feature - a bike balance beam made out of a large log. We know how keen everyone is to try this out, so we'll be opening the path as soon as its finished.
