Wilson Park car park upgrade
Wilson Park car park upgrade – Citrus Avenue entrance
Kia ora, Welcome to the Wilson Park car park project page. Here, you’ll find everything you need to know about the project, including latest updates, and a timeline of upcoming steps.
About the project
Work is about to begin on upgrading the car park at the Citrus Avenue entrance to Wilson Park, Waihī Beach. Construction is scheduled to start on Monday 11 May 2026. The work will involve replacing the existing grass and soil surface with a new all-weather aggregate car park, improving access and usability year round.
This upgrade is part of the Wilson Park – Waihi Beach Concept Plan, adopted by Council in 2022. The plan outlines a long-term vision for the park, including improved facilities such as a toilet block, seating, tree planting, upgraded accessways, and event infrastructure.
The new toilet block was completed in 2024. The current work continues delivery of the plan, with a focus on the Citrus Avenue entrance, including the car park and entrance path.
What to expect
Construction is expected to take around six weeks to complete. During this time:
- The Citrus Avenue entrance to Wilson Park will be closed
- Public access through this entrance will not be available
- Alternative access to the park will remain open via entrances along The Crescent
You may notice increased construction activity, traffic movements, and some disruption while work is underway.
We understand this work may cause some inconvenience and appreciate the patience and cooperation of park users and nearby residents while these improvements are completed.
