Share Hi, I would be interested to know if a footpath has been considered along SH33 between Old Coach Road and Sunset Drive, where the houses are across from the Domain. You have to walk/cycle along the grass and/or road verge. Children often use when going to school, the shop or when going to the Domain. It would be safer to have a footpath. Can be scary cycling when the big trucks are going past at speed and the gust of wind that can come from them (at times). Which brings me to my next thought, maybe a reduction of speed to 60km where it is currently 70km would be a good idea. At this stage, a footpath has not been considered. Over the past
two years the focus has been an investment on cycleways. Council has also
invested substantially in upgrading existing footpaths to reduce tripping
hazards to meet the growing needs of an ageing population.
Council is engaging with our community on the wider concepts of managing
speeds across our District. This engagement is taking place over the next year
and it has started with the “It’s About You” engagement. Currently through this engagement, we are seeking views of
the community on various topics including whether the speed limits across the
District are too high, too low or just about right. Council has to balance to
views of people when they regularly drive on the road compared to those who
actually live on the road. Typically, when people live on a road they prefer
the speed to be lower. This makes it difficult for Council to satisfy the needs
of both road users and residents so we will make sure we complete the
conversation with the wider community before we consider speed limits on
individual roads based on their nature and function. I encourage you to take
part in this engagement process. Council will be in Paengaroa at the community
hall on Tuesday, 4 July to discuss this topic with the community.
