Timeline
Works begin
In the first few weeks, crews focused on setting up the site, locating underground utilities, and working on stormwater drainage upgrades, which are needed due to the road being widened.
Widening the road
Now that we've completed the behind-the-scenes work, there is more to see, with diggers shifting dirt around as we prepare to widen the road. We've been busy:
- Digging out the grass berms - this week we completed the stretch of road between numbers 114 and 168.
- Marking out where services like power and fibre will go, and any areas where existing services might be affected by the works.
- Creating a temporary road to bring drainage materials on site.
Construction of new stormwater drainage
21 November 2024
Construction of the new stormwater drainage system is underway. To safeguard existing power and broadband services, our contractor is working closely with Powerco, Chorus and Tuatahi First Fibre to make sure cables are protected and/or relocated so they aren't damaged by the work.
For heavy machinery enthusiasts, here's the line-up of equipment currently on site:
- 50T excavator
- 20T long reach excavator
- Two 14T excavators
- 16T excavator
- D3 bulldozer
- Six-wheeler
- Two 4-wheelers
- Watercart
- Tractor broom
- 120 grader
- Cat roller
- 4T roller
Stormwater works continue
We're continuing with the stormwater drainage upgrades this week, with an archaeologist on hand to monitor the ground for any pre-European material.
1200 diameter main installed
Construction of drainage upgrades continues with installation of the 1200 diameter stormwater main, manholes and driveway culverts. Buried utility services are impeding progress in some locations.
Pavement widening work starts
We're continuing with earthworks and stormwater drainage construction, and we've also started pavement widening work. Check out the latest pics below:

Earthworks completed between numbers 107-133
Earthworks have been completed between house numbers 107 and 133. We've also installed multiple culverts and replaced water services where they were found to be laid too shallow.
Pavement works are ongoing, between numbers 107 and 114.
Kerb and channel poured
Last week two sections of kerb and channel were poured, between numbers 130-143, and numbers 187-189.
The road surface was removed between numbers 101-196, ready for pavement reconstruction, while pavement works started between numbers 190-196.
We continue to liaise with utility service providers, regarding service protection/relocation.
Relocation of water main preparation
Here's what we've been up to lately:
- Pavement sub-base layer placed between properties 105-191 (the next step is to stabilise this layer with cement)
- Preparing for relocation of a 63mm diameter watermain between numbers 98 and 191
- Started installing stormwater drainage over bulk watermain
- Backfilled new kerbs outside numbers 142 to 186
- Continued with utility service relocations
