We are upgrading the Katikati Wastewater Treatment Plant to improve water quality and ensure the final treated water is as clean as possible.
What’s happening?
We’ve partnered with Apex Water to design and construct a new treatment process called a Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR). This innovative system will treat wastewater more effectively, focusing on reducing nitrogen levels to ensure the final treated water is as clean as possible.
Why it matters. This upgrade will:
Ensure cleaner, safer water is released into the environment
Help the council meet environmental goals and comply with wastewater discharge requirements
Improve wastewater treatment for Katikati residents
Construction will begin in November 2024, with completion expected by August 2025. Stay tuned for more updates.
