This project is now complete!
We've reconfigured the main pool and made other improvements to increase learn to swim opportunities, improve accessibility and enable the pools to run for a longer season. As a result of the work, the pool season has been extended from 28 weeks to nine months of the year.
This follows many years of the Dave Hume Swimming Pool Trust developing the concept of an enclosed pool, with a new liner system to reduce painting costs and frequency. The roof project to enclose the pool was factored into Council's 2021-2031 Long Term Plan, but due to escalating costs Council agreed in October 2024 to focus their attention on a bulkhead, pool upgrades and a new liner system.
The $2.7 million improvements, which were completed in December 2025, were funded through existing Council budgets and money raised and secured by the Dave Hume Swimming Pool Trust.
Upgrades include:
A new bulkhead in the main pool to create two pools - a 25m pool and 7m learn to swim pool
Bore water heater upgrade for the new learn to swim pool, to keep it at a warmer temperature
New discharge bore to improve environmental effects
PVC liners for all pools
New sand filtration systems for all three pools
Learn to swim pool upgrade
Changing room insulation and heating
New pool covers
Disability hoist in the main pool
New foyer and entrance doors
CCTV camera upgrades
New office, heating and painting
Landscaping to create a fresh 'tropical' aesthetic
New outdoor fitness and strength training equipment
Thanks to the generous support of our sponsors, whose donations played a key role in ensuring the pool continues to serve the community:
TECT - $400,000
Lotteries Commission - $250,000
Dave Hume Swimming Pool Trust - $65,000
Playground People Ltd - $10,000 towards the outdoor gym
Katikati Lions - $5000
HEB Construction - donation and installation of wheel stops
