Timeline
Design and consents being finalised
We are in the process of finalising the design and obtaining the consents needed to start the work, and expect to go out to tender early next year.
Building is anticipated to start within the first six months of 2025.
The sea wall at the Athenree North Foreshore Reserve, located behind numbers 44 - 52 Roretana Drive, is also due to be replaced and this work will be done around the same time.
We will have a clearer timeline once the contractor has been appointed.
Resource consent granted
Things are moving along nicely, and we expect to go out to tender by mid-February at the latest.
Resource consent has been granted, and we look forward to sharing the design with you once the building consent has been approved.
Construction contract awarded
The tender process is now complete and we're excited to share that HEB Construction has been awarded the contract to build the jetty.
We expect the jetty to be mostly completed by the end of June, but we don't have an exact start date yet as the work is part of HEB's wider programme across the District.
We're also waiting on specially treated timber - this timber is treated to meet the marine H6 standard, ensuring that it is durable enough to withstand harsh marine environments, including saltwater and pests, so it will last for many years in the water. Once the timber is ready and we're able to get started with the work, we'll let you know!
We can also confirm building consent was granted for our preferred design, 'Option 2', below. The new jetty will be the same size as the existing jetty, but lower in heigh to meet current health and safety regulations.
Construction starts
We're about to begin building the new jetty, with construction starting on Monday 30 June.
The jetty should be ready for use by the end of August - in the meantime, the area beside the jetty (including areas where materials are being stored) will be fenced off and temporarily closed.
We're excited to get started on this project and look forward to seeing the community making use of it soon!
Jetty finished and ready for use
The jetty is officially finished and ready for you to enjoy! We've also done some planting around it to tidy up the area and protect it from erosion.
If you've followed the project, you might notice it looks a little different from the original design - in particular there is an additional section of balustrade installed at the entry platform to the jetty.
That's because when we got into the detailed building consent plans, we realised an entry platform would be beneficial for erosion control purposes. This extra platform height also meant we needed to rethink the balustrade to comply with the building code and make sure everyone stays safe.
We know the community has been looking forward to having the jetty back in action and we're sure it will get plenty of use as the days get longer and the weather warms up.
