This project is part of our wider road renewal programme for urban–rural routes across the Western Bay. These roads often serve as key access points for local whānau, farms, marae, and holidaymakers - so to help improve the safety and lifespan of the road we are undertaking both a road renewal, as well as upgrading the stormwater and drainage systems on Seaforth Road.
Doing both at the same time means we can strengthen the road and improve how water is managed during heavy rain - helping protect the road for the future and reducing the need for repeated works later on.
Latest Update - November 2025
The contract for the Seaforth Road renewal and stormwater improvements has been awarded to J Swap Contractors.
Construction was originally planned to begin in early January 2026, but will now get underway in September 2026. This revised timing allows us to deliver a more comprehensive project that better meets community needs and long-term stormwater goals.
We know that stormwater management on Seaforth Road is a real concern for many in the community. Delaying the start of construction gives us time to design and consent a more thorough and effective stormwater solution as part of these upgrades. By addressing drainage and road improvements together, we can deliver a longer-lasting result and reduce the need for follow-up works in the future.
Starting in September also makes practical sense. It avoids the wetter winter months, when construction is more challenging and less efficient, and ensures the work is completed before the busy summer season — minimising disruption for residents and holidaymakers who enjoy the area over summer.
What happens next
Over the coming months, we will be:
Finalising detailed design for the stormwater improvements and road renewal.
Progressing consenting requirements.
Preparing a construction staging plan to minimise disruption during works.
Sharing project updates on this page, Antenno, and Council social media.
More detailed timeframes and work staging information will be provided before construction begins.
