Pukehina Community Hall partial remediation - preferred option
Consultation on the Pukehina Community Hall preferred option of partial remediation ended at 5pm, Friday 9 April 2021.
Council will consider the feedback prior to finalising its Long Term Plan 2021/2031. If the preferred option is supported by the community, Council will include the final cost in the final Long Term Plan 2021/2031, which will be adopted on Tuesday 29 June 2021. The public are welcome to attend this meeting.
If the preferred option is not supported by the community, Council may seek alternative options from the community and further engagement. This would mean a final approved solution could be incorporated in Council’s Annual Plan 2022/2023, which will be adopted in June 2022.
This have your say opportunity is targeted at Pukehina residents and ratepayers. If you live in Pukehina, please have your say on this topic.
The Pukehina Community Hall is one of 17 community halls in the District, owned and operated by local hall committees and available for public use. Over the past 10 months, the hall has been assessed as having significant weather-tightness issues.
Council with the Pukehina Beach Residents & Ratepayers Association (PBRRA) have been working together to find a preferred option to resolve these issues and get feedback from the community on this preferred option.
Currently, Council and PBRRA are consulting with the Pukehina community on the preferred option to partially remediate the hall. Consultation on the preferred option ends at 5pm, Friday 9 April 2021.
Purpose of the consultation:
- The Pukehina Community Hall is an important asset to the people living in Pukehina.
- We are seeking feedback to ascertain whether people agree with the preferred option.
- If the preferred option is supported by the community, Council will include the final cost in the final 2021-2031 Long Term Plan, which will be adopted on Tuesday 29 June 2021.
- If not, Council may seek alternative options from the community and further engagement.
While we are seeking your feedback on the preferred option, PBRRA is also actively seeking alternative sources of funding so the loan can be minimised. Any third party funding received will reduce the loan amount. This in turn would reduce the loan repayment rate on your property from year two onwards of the next 10 years.
Preferred option:
- Partially remediate the hall - repairing areas where water has been shown to be coming into the hall walls, and undertaking the necessary repairs to fix damage done to date.
- By undertaking partial remediation, together with ongoing and regular maintenance, means the hall can be safely used and continue to be an asset for the community.
- Estimated to cost approximately $200,000. Funded by a loan over 10 years, from Council, paid back by ratepayers through their rates.
- There will also be a maintenance and insurance cost of approximately $5100 per year.
- These estimates translate into a charge of $36.50 per year for 10 years for each property, made up of $30.00 per year for the loan and $6.50 per year (currently $3.99) for the maintenance and insurance costs.
- These estimates could change (decrease or increase), depending on the final cost to reopen the hall.
