What's coming up for Omokoroa?
In around 40 years Omokoroa should be fully developed and home for around 12,000 people. We’re starting to plan for the next phase of development – the area between the railway line and State Highway.
To plan for this growth (around an extra 9,000 people), Council is working on the Omokoroa Structure Plan – a structure plan provides a long term framework to guide future growth and development of a particular area.
At the heart of this conversation will be 'What is the community we’re creating now for the future?’:
What areas people think will be suitable for housing;
Where a commercial area that complements new houses and other land uses will go;
Transport links;
Schools;
Community facilities;
Recreation spaces; and
How these can all fit together to create a great place to live, work and play.
The development of the structure plan will happen in four parts:
Identifying what needs to be taken into account when planning for future development. THIS IS WHERE WE'RE AT TODAY.
Development of detailed options for the area between the railway line and State Highway. This will be based on the feedback from the open days and incorporate best planning principles.
Discuss options with the community.
Pick a preferred option and create a detailed structure plan. This will also include rules that will guide how development can occur.
We're currently in the first part of our engagement process and there are a number of ways you can provide your feedback:
