Have your say has closed on the Draft Reserves Management Plan Review 2018 for the Katikati-Waihi Beach Ward.

Feedback opened on Monday 14 May and closed on Monday 9 July 2018.

Background

Reserve management plans set the rules and provide a vision for how we use and develop public spaces – reserves in our communities. This includes legal descriptions of the spaces, the vision for how we will use recreation areas and of what you can and cannot do in these places. Western Bay has a district-wide reserve management plan that is split into three sections – one for each ward. The ward plans are reviewed on a rolling basis.

The former Katikati and Waihi Beach Ward Plans originally adopted in August 2008 and September 2007 respectively are now due for review. The draft contains information specific to the reserves in the Ward as well as generic reserve management objectives, policies and reference to various Bylaws

It covers a large area and includes Katikati and Waihi Beach townships including their rural / coastal areas e.g. Aongatete, Kauri Point, Ongare Point, Tanners Point, Tuapiro, Matakana Island, Island View, Bowentown, and Athenree. There are also motor camps, holiday parks community halls scattered throughout the ward.

What takes place as part of this review?

The review involves identifying things that need to be updated and/or creating new initiatives for consideration and feedback from the community. If you have a view about the process or individual reserves, we would like your feedback.

You will be interested in this engagement process if you are a person who:

  • Would like to see changes in how people use reserves

  • Uses walkways and reserves in the Katikati – Waihi Beach Ward area

  • Enjoys our beaches and plays sport on the sports grounds

  • Is interested in sustainable development and the natural environment, and

  • Would like to see more spent on our reserves e.g. children and adult playgrounds, better fields, new or better toilets, cycleways and walkways and facilities.
