The playground at Gilfillan Drive Recreational Reserve in Katikati is getting a refresh, and we're keen to hear your ideas to help shape a fun community space for tamariki (children) and their whānau (family). Scroll down to do the survey!

Work will focus on replacing or refreshing equipment within the existing playground footprint. This isn't a full redesign, but an opportunity to make sure the space supports the needs of our growing and changing community.

Gilfillan Drive Reserve is a neighbourhood green space tucked in between Gilfillan Drive and Fairview Road. Surrounded by mature trees and a peaceful backdrop, the reserve is a much-loved place for locals.

The playground at Gilfillan Drive Reserve was installed in 1997 and while it remains a well-used and loved space, much of the equipment is now tired and outdated. It’s been identified for an update through Council’s ongoing renewal programme, based on its age, condition and usage. With $150,000 allocated through the Long Term Plan 2024–34, the refresh aims to ensure the playground remains safe, fun and fit for how tamariki play and families use the space today.

Playgrounds are more than just places to play. They help tamariki build confidence, stay active, connect with others, and explore the world around them. That’s why it’s important this upgrade reflects the needs and ideas of the community.

We want to hear from you! If you live nearby or bring your tamariki to play, now’s the time to share your thoughts on what equipment, activities and features you’d like included. Your ideas will help guide what is included in the final design.

Feedback closes at 12pm on Thursday 28 August 2025.
