Kia ora, welcome to the Beach Grove Reserve seawall renewal project page.

About the project

We are upgrading the seawall to provide better long-term protection for the reserve and surrounding coastline.

High tides and waves have gradually worn away at the seawall, so it’s important we strengthen it to protect the reserve and pathway. This work will help keep the area safe and accessible so people can continue to enjoy it for years to come.

The work is expected to start on Tuesday 27 October, 2026, and take 8-10 weeks to complete, dependant on weather and tidal conditions.

During that time, a section of the shared pathway, between Beach Grove and Cooney Reserve, will be closed for 3-4 weeks, as the path is too narrow for people to use safely while work is underway. A signed detour via Cooney Reserve and Ōmokoroa Road will be available.

The boat ramp will remain open, but grassed reserve areas on either side will be temporarily closed to allow materials and equipment to be safely stored and moved. Parking along this section of Beach Grove will also be unavailable.

You will see trucks, machinery and large rocks moving through the reserve while the work is underway, so please take care and follow the signs.
